Preform production is a very complex technological process, which is owned by literally a few companies in the world, and the company "Optic Fiber Systems" has been trying to obtain state support for localizing this technology in the Russian Federation for the past two or three years.

However, in order to increase the market share of local fiber producers and reduce its import dependence, as well as to increase the reliability of supplies within the country, diversification of the optical fiber production industry is highly desirable. Two or three fiber producers with a full technological cycle, including preform production, should appear in the country, which will be in balance with these 12-14 local optical cable producers and fully cover the market needs.

If a country has only one producer of something critical, it creates a strategic vulnerability.

Therefore, Vitaly Shub emphasizes, such production requires at least two to three times the reserve capacity.
